Call for new projects: Additional Essential Climate Variables

New R&D procurement as part of ESA's CLIMATE-SPACE programme

A new procurement has been issued to undertake research and development for Essential Climate Variable (ECV) products as part of the ESA CLIMATE-SPACE programme.

The scope of the new activity involves developing new satellite-derived Climate Data Records not yet addressed in the Essential Climate Variable portfolio of ESA’s Climate Change Initiative (CCI) or algorithm improvement of existing products

Up to three projects will be awarded.

Project's funded through the new procurement are expected to make progress towards achieving the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) requirements for ECV products and help to address issues highlighted by the scientific community and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The CLIMATE-SPACE programme, which runs from 2023-2029, extends and expands the work supported over the last decade by ESA’s successful Climate Change Initiative, which has developed a portfolio of over 25 satellite-based ECV products.

Full details of the procurement can be found on ESA’s tendering portal, ESA-STAR

The deadline for proposal submission is 14 October 2024 at 13:00 CET.
